Westex Consulting Engineers, a long-standing consulting engineering firm in Reno, is hiring ICC-certified Special Inspectors for its Special Inspection and Construction Materials Testing group.
Special Inspectors provide independent, third-party verification that critical structural work on commercial and civil projects is built to the approved plans, specifications, and building code. It's a role with real accountability, and one where your judgment and documentation directly support public safety. Westex has a strong pipeline of projects across the Reno area and supports inspectors who want to broaden their certifications.
Day to Day
Westex invests in its inspectors' continued growth. Each additional ICC, NAQTC, or ACI certification broadens the inspections you can perform and brings added responsibility and higher pay.
Schedule
Inspections follow the construction schedule, so early start times are common and schedules shift with project needs. Some weekend and occasional night work should be expected.
Compensation
$35+/hour, depending on experience
Starting pay reflects your inspection experience and the number and type of certifications you hold.

Day to Day
- Carry out code-required special inspections under the International Building Code (IBC) and each project's Statement of Special Inspections.
- Inspect reinforcing steel, concrete placement, structural masonry, structural steel and bolting, and soils, within the scope of your certifications.
- Check work in place against approved plans, specifications, and submittals, and identify nonconforming conditions.
- Produce clear, accurate daily inspection reports and follow discrepancies through to resolution.
- Communicate findings promptly and professionally to contractors, engineers, project managers, building officials, and clients.
- Coordinate sampling and testing with field technicians and help mentor newer team members.
- Follow company safety, inspection, and quality procedures.
- At least one current ICC special inspector certification (required).
- Additional ICC certifications such as Reinforced Concrete, Structural Masonry, Structural Steel and Bolting, or Soils are a strong plus.
- NAQTC and ACI certifications are a plus.
- Experience in special inspection or construction materials testing on commercial or civil projects.
- Ability to read and apply construction plans, specifications, and code requirements.
- Strong writing skills and a precise approach to documentation.
- Comfort working outdoors and on active construction sites.
- Reliable transportation and a valid driver's license.
